Golf Merit Badge

We took the Scouts out to Swan Lakes Golf Course recently for the Golf Merit Badge. It was kind of like herding cats out there... (Is there a Cat Herding Merit Badge???) Balls were hit, balls were lost, but everyone had a great time. Here's the proof:

Golf Sesh With Jason

Jason Condie and I have been trying to get out on the links for months now, especially since we have some 2-for-1 passes for 18 holes. We finally went out and we had a great time. It started out a little rocky, mostly because Jason got a speeding ticket right in front of the golf course, but in the end we had a lot of fun. 18 holes is a lot of golf, though! I don't even remember the last time I threw down 18 in one day. By the time we reached 16 we were both pretty beat, so we just took Pars for the last two. Haha. Not a bad way to spend the morning...

Golf Sesh With The Bros

David, Rob, and I went out and enjoyed a beautiful Saturday on the golf course before David had to take off to his new digs in North Dakota. He says the only time he golfs is when he's with me and Rob, so we'd better do our "brotherly duty" and take him golfing, right? Of course! We all had a great time and even hit a few decent shots between the three of us. Whenever I go golfing, I measure if the round was a success by if I come home with more balls than I left with... So it was a successful outing! I also found another BETTER way to measure success, though... If we get air with the golf cart!!! Enjoy.

Book Club: Golf Tournament

We held our second annual Elders Quorum Book Club golf tournament this past weekend and it was a blast. The first year, we only had 5 guys show up so the 8 that came this year was a big improvement. We split into two groups and chased the little white ball around the yard for a couple hours. I wish I could say that I played well, but it didn't matter. It was so cool seeing those guys out there together having a good time. We even had a couple of guys come who don't usually make it to church on Sunday so that in itself was a huge success. In the end, Scott Garton took home the low score, a sleeve of balls, and the green jacket. He was working on Sunday and therefore couldn't accept the jacket, so his wife came in his stead. She wouldn't carry on the tradition of wearing it for the rest of the meetings, though... Tim came out with us and had a chance to win on the last hole, but he put his ball into the drink trying to make the green in two on the Par 5 18th. He was close, though! He got second. Josh Stout came in third, just 4 shots behind. Bill Ince took home the longest putt for dropping a 20+ footer into the clown's mouth! Josh also won the "Anton Jackson Shot of the Day" trophy (a snapped-in-half 3 iron), along with Colby Western, for their tag team hitting of a house on one of the holes. Apparently, one of them hit their ball off a guy's house and the other immediately followed the first by hitting his ball off the guy's trailer... while he was in the yard! He glared at them as they passed by and was pretty bent out of shape about it. One of the balls was sitting in the grass next to him in the yard, but they didn't go get it. Hahaha! I think a good time was had by all and I for one can't wait until the next event! Funny thing about golf for me: Before I go, I'm so excited! While I'm there, I'm so frustrated! After I'm done, I can't wait to go again! What a messed up game.

Golf With J.Roy

Had a nice golf sesh with Jeff the other day. The weather was epic and it was great to be out early on the course. Only downside was that the grass was soaked and Jeff was wearing his five fingers... and they decided it was a great day to cut down a bunch of trees on the course so the chainsaws were roaring while we were trying to putt... and that we both aren't very good. Other than that it was perfect! No really, we had a great time. Even got to take some videos of our amazing skills. Take a look!

Top moment of the day for sure was when we were trying to putt on hole #6. The course loops around so that the green for hole #6 is right next to the fairway of hole #3. #3 has a tee box located on top of a monster hill (see above video) that allows you to hit to the green below. Just as I'm about to putt, we hear this "HEY!! STOP THE CART! STOP THE CART!" We both looked up to see a fat man chasing his club cart down the hill as fast as he could go yelling the whole way down! It was absolutely hilarious. Of course we didn't have the camera going at the time or we'd be rich already. Fail. But it sure made for some entertaining golf! Almost as funny as this sign:

Jeff: "What's that supposed to mean?"
Jake: "Run away from each other I guess."

While we were at the course, we also hit up the putting green where we put on a clinic of how to drain putts like nobody's business! Okay, so it wasn't THAT great... but, well, we didn't do too bad. See for yourself...

Texas Trip

I had the opportunity in October to go down to Texas with my brother-in-law, Rob, to see David, Sharee, and their family. It's only been 10 months since David's baptism, but he's already receiving the Melchizedek Priesthood. He's such a stud! We flew down on Friday morning and went to the Air Force base with David where he showed us around and took us to see the planes and where he instructs. We even got to do a flight simulator! I gave myself the call sign "Ace" because I landed my jet on the runway the first try and didn't die. I credit my natural piloting abilities to watching "Top Gun" so many times! (Charlie: "What were you doing up there, Captain?" Maverick: "Communicating." Charlie: "Communicating?" Goose: "Yeah, you know? The bird?") After we were done being "Naval Aviators" we spend the evening around the house playing with Taylor, Zach, and Beth.



The next morning we woke up early and went golfing for 18 holes and it was so great. David even treated us as birthday presents! (I told you the guy was amazing!) Rob won the round, but it came down to the last hole and I would have had him if I could have placed my wedge onto the green... Oh well. I was pretty stoked that I had multiple 300+ yard drives! Boom baby!We went home after and made some videos in the back yard, which you should check out in the next post. (Note: No real children were harmed in the making of these videos.)



Sunday, we went to Church and had a wonderful meeting there. I always enjoy going to wards outside of Utah because the Spirit is so unique and strong there. It takes me back to my youth growing up in the small wards and branches of Montana. When it came time to give David the Priesthood, the Spirit was so strong and it was such an incredible experience. He was truly chosen and foreordained before this life to receive this Priesthood power and he's such an example to me of worthiness, dedication, and righteousness. I'm just so glad to have been a part of this journey with him and to be a part of this great family. Not many can say they have such great in-laws...

The rest of the day was spent lounging around the house, taking naps, making more videos (again, see the next post!), playing with the kids, and watching football. Rob and I were pretty much treated like kings and had such a great time that it was hard to leave. But we were excited to head home and see our families. We took off the next morning and flew home and somebody was pretty excited to me when we got to the airport!



My Birthday, Year 26 (Part 1)

Once again, I had a fantastic birthday! If you haven't already guessed, I really REALLY love my birthday. Why? Because it's the best day of the year! This year's celebration started a little early with us taking Jeremy to see Toy Story 3. He loved it and was so good. He just sat in my lap the entire time. He now wants to go watch "Big Buzz Movie" every day... Hahaha. The other reason it started early this year was due to another battle in the Prank Wars saga. You see, my friend Nate Probert has a birthday two days before mine. I took him out to breakfast that morning and it just felt like there was still something missing... So we (Me, Tyson, Jason, Joe, and Rob Peterson) hit his car that night. It was hilarious and he was a great sport about it.

The problem with this plan of mine is that it gave the others ideas... The next night, Jason and the boys took me out for ice cream. While I was gone, this happened:

Yes, that would be my truck. And what is that in the bed of my truck? That would be a hose. Why a hose? To fill the bed with water. Why the water? So the goldfish don't die. Yes, my truck bed was filled with goldfish. Haha. Pretty good prank, I must admit. So yeah, I got 15 goldfish for my birthday!

I woke up early on birthday morn and Amber took my out to the truck where she'd filled it full of balloons that were filled with notes and money for my birthday as well as my new U of U hat! She also made breakfast for me, Jeff, and Jason before we went golfing. It was delicious! The golfing was great. It was the first time I'd been up to Eagle Wood and we all had a great time. Only lost one ball too. Not too shabby! Here's some pics:

Golf At Sun Hills

Here's the pics from our golf outing a couple weeks ago. Dad swears he won, but... Jk. It was a good time. The highlight of the afternoon was FOR SURE when Jeff's bag came loose on the cart and spilled balls, tees, and clubs all over in the cart path in front of the group behind us! It was so rad. Yeah, we're pro. Sure I put one almost through someone's roof, but we all left with more balls than we came with, so that equals a successful day!
