Back to the Zoo!

One year later, we were back at the zoo again! This time it was with our good friends the Cefalo's who will soon be grazing the majestic mining community of Elko, NV where Jake got a new job. We're stoked for them, but sad that they're leaving. Our visit started out a little disappointing because plastered all over SLC and around the zoo are pictures of the new baby elephant... and it wasn't even out! That's messed up, zoo man. Also, the entire bear section is closed and under construction and the zebras were AWOL! Don't worry, it got better though. We got to see the giraffes breeding... No lie. They were in the process of the furry mambo when we walked up. We, uh, moved along quickly to the other side of the building. The tigers were out and rocking the cat's paw, though. One was so close you could almost ride it. Jeremy loved every part of the zoo, especially the white wolf that looked like Ume. And FYI, the Nature's Nightmare part... not that impressive. The ugly vulture bird was cool beans and the fruit bats were neat because they were like right above you, but other than that, kind of disappointing. But we got a great view of the orangutans and the gorilla. That was cool. And to top it off, Jeremy got a new elephant hat. He's so cute in it. Overall, good day. But where's the freaking baby elephant! As Jeremy Jones would say, "I'm calling bull crap on it, dude. I'm not buying it."

Softball Game #3

Back to our winning ways! We had Tim back and we all played a lot better. We had two new girls, Kristen and Kat, on 2B and SS and it soon developed into the "Power Infield" with me on 1B and Rob on 3B. Our defense was killer... until the last inning when we almost blew our lead and the game, but we closed them out. Colby had some clutch hits and a bases clearing triple. Casi and Tim dominated the outfield like nobody's business. Good win. Record: 2-1.

Softball Game #2

Prior to last week's softball game, this came across the newsroom desk:

BREAKING NEWS: Tim Olsen is OUT for tomorrow's game with a deep laceration on this right, non-throwing hand. The work related injury required 10 stitches yesterday at a Park City clinic. He is listed as game-to-game. Colby "Wild West"-ern is expected to take Tim's place in the starting lineup. Older brother Jake allegedly congratulated Tim on "laying a mother goose egg" and called him a "fetching fetcher." Jake later apologized for his comments.

Unfortunately, we had a really rough game #2. I know I personally played like a sack of manure and we just couldn't seem to get a break. It was just one of those games where the ball bounces the right way for the other team and the wrong way for us. It seemed like they hit every ball into the gap or shallow outfield or up the line and we just couldn't get a hit away from their team. So we had to take a loss. Oh well. Our cheering section DESTROYED theirs, though! We may have lost but at least we have friends! Hey-ohhhhh!

The Garden, Year 2

We have got our garden all planted and ready for the new year! The new tiller is a beast and did amazing again. I love that thing! We've expanded a little this year and are planting even more than last year. Should be a good time. Jeremy loved it more than anyone else I think! That kid is such a boy. He just loves being outside and playing with tools and being in the dirt. He's so steezy. Here's some pics with the finished shed.

New Tools

Well, Jeremy was playing with his tools outside and didn't bring them in and it rained really hard that night... So his Handy Manny saw "Dusty" didn't talk anymore. He felt pretty sad about it and Dusty has grown to be a family favorite around here, so we decided we'd better go to Toys R Us and get another. Let's just say that the new tools were a huge hit! He spent over an hour after we got home "fixing things." That's daddy's boy!

Softball Game #1

Victory! Softball game #1 is a W. Great game by all. Tim led off with a homer on his first at bat. Rob's defense at 3rd was money all night. Casi and Colby both had amazing catches in the outfield. And I had two homers. Big win!

Teardrop Trailer Part 1

Well here's the first weekend's worth of progress on the teardrop! Looking amazing so far! Dad, Tim, and I are trailer building gurus fo sho! You know it's a good project when you've only worked for one weekend and you're already excited to start the next one!

The Park

Grandpa and Grandma came down for the weekend to visit Jeremy and we had a great trip to the park. I'm pretty sure Jeremy would love it if we just moved there in a tent so he could play on the slide all day! He was so cute. He goes down the slide all by himself and he kept asking Grandma to slide down with him. He also made sure each of us had our own swing so we could all swing together. And on the way home we made sure to visit the goats that live down the street. "Hi gooooooat!" Man, I love my son!!!

The Shed

So we got a bigger and better tiller for the garden and it didn't fit in Mom's shed. She got a bid by a contractor to build one for her and it was pretty pricey. Well, I was kinda having a craving for a shed building project... so we priced it out and recruited El Tim and went for it! I have to admit, we did a freaking amazing job! Especially for having zero plans. That thing is gonna survive the Apocalypse! It turned out so well, in fact, that we have actually thought about doing more if anyone wanted us to. So if anyone wants a custom built shed, let me know! Olsen Bros. Shed Co., est. 2010.

It Came!!!

It came!! It finally came!! So eBay is incredible and I love it and I got my hunting bow for this fall! Went down to the local bow shop and the same bow would have been over twice as much! Thank you, eBay! Now, let's go huntin'!

Skeet Shoot Volume 2

After last year's Elders Quorum Skeet Shoot was such a huge success, we decided it was time to do it again! We didn't have as many guys that were able to come this time, but it was still awesome. We actually went through the two boxes of pigeons a lot faster than expected and still had some shells left over. So we started throwing doughnuts... and plastic bottles full of yellow-ish fluid we found behind a bush... and bowling pins... Haha it was prime for sure.
